This turtle was commissioned by the local Airlie Beach Rotary Club to go on the foreshore of the Cannonvale to Airlie boardwalk. It was installed at the mid tide level and is mostly submerged at high tide. It is about 100 meters from the commencement of the boardwalk just past the police station in Cannonvale. Although the original was sculpted from black Chillagoe marble, it was decided that a bronze copy would be more suitable for the marine environment. The original is located at the artists studio.
This bronze was cast using marine epoxy resin in place of the usual polyester resin along with the bronze powder. The hollow centre was filled with marine grade concrete to add weight and longevity as it is in a high cyclone area.
